Why “Hitting The Target” Matters
A popular Peanuts™ cartoon shows Charlie Brown practicing archery. Target after target was drawn on a fence, each with a hole in the bull’s-eye. When Lucy asked him to demonstrate, he shot randomly and then drew a target around the arrow. When she asked why, he said:
“I’m making sure I never miss.”
Unfortunately, many ministry programs do the same. Activities are launched, results are claimed, and yet time, energy, and resources are wasted because there was no clear target to aim for.
Determining the Target
What is the target of Master’s Men? What are we trying to accomplish?
Before answering, we must first understand how to determine the target. Society’s perception of manhood is flawed. Instead, the Word of God provides clarity.
The Bible explains how a man can be transformed into an individual who brings glory to God.
Our mission: The objectives of Master’s Men are firmly grounded in Scripture.
Defining the Target
Master’s Men exists to help pastors and churches encourage men to become all God wants them to be.
“Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question… Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.”

Men of Priority
A multitude of demands compete for a man’s time. Men who bring glory to God understand that their first priority is their relationship with Jesus Christ.
Master’s Men challenges and equips men to develop an intimate walk with the Savior.
Men of Prayer
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” — James 5:16
Master’s Men equips men to become faithful men of prayer. Goals include:
Personal prayer
Praying with and for family
Praying in a committed small circle
Praying for pastors, church staff, and ministries
Not every man can preach, teach, or sing—but every man can influence the world through prayer.
Men of Purpose
Master’s Men exists to accomplish five key purposes:
- Fellowship: Build relationships through shared commitment to Jesus Christ.
- Discipleship: Grow spiritually, embrace purity, lead in the home, mentor others, and share the gospel.
- Stewardship: Support the church and denomination through giving and service.
- Soul-Winning: Mobilize men to influence families, communities, and workplaces with the gospel.
- Edification: Equip men to serve the church and become spiritual leaders, freeing pastors to focus on prayer and preaching.
Men of Purity
Remaining pure in a world full of pressures is challenging. Master’s Men proclaims biblical truths that empower men to live godly lives.
Men of Passion
Men often pour energy into hobbies, sports, or work—but neglect family responsibilities.
Master’s Men teaches men to be passionately committed to their families, fulfilling biblical responsibilities to their wives and children.
Satan delights in dividing husbands from wives and fathers from children. We equip men to strengthen their families and support the church in doing the same.
Focused Hits vs. Random Shots
It can be tempting to take the Charlie Brown approach: shoot first, define the target later.
But defining the target has advantages:
- Forces focus
- Reduces wasted effort
- Increases success in ministry and personal growth
Developing Master’s Men
