Master’s Men

Our Foundation: A Prayer for Men

From the start, leaders prayed that:

  • “God may set men’s hearts on fire with the desire to know His will.”

  • Men would be sent forth to teach, serve, and save.

  • Laymen across the denomination would be enlisted and empowered to live out their faith.

Master’s Men was born out of this prayer — and it continues to guide everything we do.

how it all began

After the rebirth of the Free Will Baptist denomination in 1935, leaders saw the need for fellowship, discipleship, and direction among men nationwide.

  • In 1955, at the 19th National Association meeting in Tulsa, W.S. Mooneyham introduced the idea of a national men’s ministry.

  • Joined by O.T. Dixon and Luther Gibson, he formed a committee to explore the potential.

  • In 1956, the proposal became reality: Master’s Men was officially founded, with Rev. Robert C. Hill penning the constitution and by-laws.

From the beginning, the vision was clear:

All Together To Advance Christ’s Kingdom (ATTACK)

Growth and Expansion

  • By 1964, membership reached 3,000 men across the country.

  • New directors brought fresh energy, expanding to over 250 new chapters in just one year.

  • Master’s Men became known as the “hands of the denomination”, building 70+ churches and mission facilities across the U.S. and abroad.

  • Men also united through sports fellowship — softball, golf tournaments, and events that still strengthen bonds today.

Equipping Men Through Discipleship

In 1999, Master’s Men began publishing annual Direction Bible Studies — practical, Scripture-based resources to help churches disciple men in their congregations.

These studies are still used today and continue to provide spiritual depth and leadership training.

Answering the Call in Times of Crisis

When Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005, Master’s Men led thousands of volunteers who gave their time, skills, and resources to rebuild homes and restore hope.

  • Hundreds of thousands of dollars in relief provided
  • Thousands of man-hours invested in rebuilding
  • Established as the official Disaster Response arm of the Free Will Baptist denomination in 2006

Since then, Master’s Men has been instrumental in dozens of relief efforts across the country; equipping men to repair, rebuild, and relieve in times of crisis.

    Looking Ahead

Today, under the umbrella of North American Ministries, Master’s Men continues to thrive on five guiding principles: Discipleship, Stewardship, Soul-Winning, Fellowship, and Edification. We remain committed to “men mentoring men for local church ministry.”

    Be Part of the Story

The mission isn’t finished. The same prayer that launched Master’s Men in 1956 still rings true today: That God may set men’s hearts on fire to know His will, and send them forth to serve.

If you’re ready to be part of a brotherhood of men living for Christ, this is your invitation.
